People always talk up summer weddings, don’t they? Whether it’s in the movies, in real life or in those glossy magazines, sunny weddings get all the love thanks to the blue skies, warm weather and the simple fact that you don’t have to worry quite as much about the rain ruining your hairdo. And honestly? Fair enough, we get the appeal. But if you want our opinion, autumn is where the real magic happens.
Think about it. The air turns crisp, the leaves go all amber and gold and suddenly everyone wants to squeeze into one cosy room together. It’s a proper snuggle-up season. Our favourite bit, though? The food. Shocker, I know.
Autumn is harvest time, which means comforting flavours, earthy smells and hearty ingredients are everywhere you turn, giving you the perfect excuse to ditch the usual wedding buffet and serve up something a little different that your guests will still be talking about months after the fact. And that’s exactly the sort of grub we live for here at Hog Roast Ottery St. Mary.
Bold, full of flavour and good for the soul: that’s how we describe our menus, and John and Rosalie were more than happy to put that to the test. They’d set their hearts on a dreamy autumn wedding at the start of the month and wanted a warming, tasty spread that ticked every box. Hog Roast Ottery St. Mary had just the thing.
Any of our menus could have done the job, honestly, but it was the Gourmet BBQ that won them over in the end. We’re talking three grilled meats, cracking sides and a couple of veggie and vegan options, so there was something for everyone. With 30 guests and everyone’s diets taken care of, they could head into their big day knowing the food was sorted, and they were right to put their trust in us.
The handmade beef burgers, sticky spareribs and slow-roasted pulled pork won over the meat lovers straight away. Veggie and vegan guests
could tuck into a veggie burger or BBQ pulled jackfruit bun, so nobody was left feeling like an afterthought. Then came the sides: Greek salad, gourmet slaw and a heap of fries, complete with salt, vinegar and Sauce Shop sauces for an extra hit of flavour. It’s a classic combination for a reason, and it kept every plate nicely filled.
John and Rosalie were over the moon with Hog Roast Ottery St. Mary’s catering service – our attention to detail, personable attitude and, of course, the quality of the food was even better than they could have imagined. Most importantly, everything felt right at home at their autumn wedding, from the warming menu to the relaxed atmosphere that comes with gathering together at this time of the year.
