FAQ – Hog Roast Catering

The team here at Spitting Pig Torbay will ensure that your day is nothing but a seamless and professional service. Below we aim to answer as many of your questions as possible so you can rest assured that you have chosen the best Hog Roast caterers around! If you have more questions that you would like to ask our team then of course please do give us a call!

What is the difference between having a spit roast and a hog roast?

It is purely the cooking method and sometimes personal preference as to which option we do for you, this will always be discussed with you. Our spit roasted pigs are skewered and rotating, sometimes requested as an additional theatre piece to your event. Whereas the hog roast is roasted on a tray and usually much slower, we get a fantastic pulled pork result from this method. Both are equally as popular and your Catering Manager will discuss both options with you to ensure you get the best results and exactly what you are looking for.

My event is indoor, can I still have a hog roast?

Of course, we are able to cater both indoor and outdoor. We do however like to confirm with the venue regarding their health and safety regulations and available ventilation. This then allows us to set up in the best possible position for both the guests and the venue benefit. We can provide all the relevant documents and insurance if your venue requires us to do so.

Would I be able to hire the machine hire instead?

Yes of course, we offer both fully catered options and non-catered options that allow you to do the cooking yourself. Our Catering Manager will deliver the machine to you (with or without the meat included) and if required will be able to take the time to run through what to do. Even get the machine started for you – it couldn’t be easier! Once you have finished we will come and collect the machine from you too.

What would we need to supply for you to cater at our event?

Absolutely nothing! A fantastic part of choosing us to cater for your event is that you don’t need to provide anything. On occasion depending on your menu we may ask for running water or a power supply. However this would not be essential as we are fully self-sufficient, it can just be a helpful addition.

I have some guests with dietary requirements, do I need to provide food for those guests myself?

Not at all, we want to make sure every single guest can enjoy a dining experience provided by us. Prior to the day please do let us know of any dietary requirements and we can ensure that we do our upmost to make sure everyone is catered for. We have a wide selection of vegetarian and vegan options, any requirements such as gluten intolerance or dairy intolerance we can provide alternative items to ensure everything is suitable for your guests.

What happens if my event is outdoor and it is raining on the day?

For our teams no matter what the weather conditions, the show still goes ahead on our part. We have a gazebo to shelter our cooking and serving area from the rain. For the occasion where we have severe weather conditions it’s always helpful to have a back-up plan to be able to serve the food indoors, it will make the event much more enjoyable for the guests.

How much notice do you need for me to be able to book?

We have regular phone calls from clients who have been let down by other caterers and are looking for a last minute option and we will always do our best to accommodate as last minute as we can. Although to guarantee the availability on your date we would recommend booking with a couple of months’ notice, especially during the busy summer season.

Will it be messy for me to have a hog roast?

For you, not at all! Our teams take away all the equipment and rubbish with us. We make sure the area is as clean as we arrived, so much so you wouldn’t have even noticed we had been there!

Do we have someone who we can speak with directly to answer any of our questions running up to the day of our event?

Of course, during the booking process you are able to deal directly with a helpful member of our office team who will assist you and answer all of your questions prior to booking. Once you have confirmed your booking with us you will me in contact directly with your Catering Manager to discuss all the finer details of arrival time, the set up on the day etc. A real personal touch to be able to liaise directly with who will be there on the day with you.
