Housewarmings get all the attention, don’t they? New home, new chapter, everyone piling round with a bottle of wine to help you christen the place. But nobody really talks about the other end of it. The leaving bit. Because let’s be honest, walking away from a house you’ve actually lived in, properly lived in, isn’t nothing. There are memories stuck to every wall of that place whether you realise it or not.
And moving doesn’t exactly leave you much headspace to think about that. You’re up to your eyes in boxes, hunting for sellotape that’s mysteriously vanished, drowning in paperwork you didn’t know existed. It’s easy to let the whole thing become a stress-fest and forget to actually say goodbye. But, if you ask us, that’s all the more reason to carve out some time for a house-cooling party.
Getting friends, family, and even the neighbours together for one last gathering in a home you’ve loved is a lovely way to close that chapter before starting the next one, and it really doesn’t need to be complicated. We actually catered one of these events recently – and the client was over the moon they’d booked us. They’d been a little nervous at first, worried a party in the middle of a move would just pile 
on more stress, but that worry didn’t last long once Hog Roast Paignton took over.
Our catering manager Rik was hands-on from day one, helping them land on the right menu, then turning up hours ahead of guests to make sure everything was hot and ready right on time. They wanted a menu that was relaxed but still a bit special, and a hog roast delivered exactly that. Stuffing, applesauce, crackling and soft rolls for the meat-lovers, BBQ-pulled jackfruit and grilled veggie kebabs for everyone else. Plus, tomato and mozzarella salad, coleslaw, mixed salad, and roasted new potatoes to round it all out. It genuinely doesn’t get better than that.
