Between 5,000 and 8,000 – that’s how many people turn 100 each year in the UK. Now that might sound like quite a lot, but only until you stack it against the roughly 470,000 people hitting 80 per annum. Then suddenly, making it all the way to your 100th birthday starts to look like the incredibly rare and special achievement it is. And if that isn’t a good excuse for a party, we’re not sure what is!
Our latest client, Paul certainly agreed, which is why he wanted to make sure his dad Lewis’s 100th birthday earlier this month was marked with a celebration worthy of the occasion. With family and friends coming together to commemorate such a huge milestone, there was plenty to organise, and finding someone to take care of the food was high on the list.
Understandably, Paul wanted to actually enjoy the party too rather than spending the whole day stuck cooking for 40 hungry guests. He also wanted the food to feel genuinely special, so he resolved to bring in a team of real professionals and soon had a booking locked in with the best and brightest around: Hog Roast Torquay. After chatting through options with our catering manager, Rik, he landed on a menu that gave guests plenty to enjoy while keeping the day firmly focused on celebrating Lewis.
For an occasion as special as this, everyone agreed that our classic hog roast was a smart move. The whole hog made a genuinely impressive centrepiece and the generous portions meant all 40 guests had more than enough to tuck into. Alongside the pork, Hog Roast Torquay served homemade applesauce and sage and onion stuffing, with tomato and mozzarella salad, mixed salad, coleslaw and a potato side rounding out the spread. We also made sure our vegetarian and vegan guests had something equally delicious, because nobody should miss out on birthday food,
whatever they eat.
And judging by the reaction, the food went down rather well. Between the impressive hog roast and the colourful sides, Hog Roast Torquay helped the whole celebration feel every bit as special as a 100th birthday deserves.
Most importantly, Lewis had a wonderful day surrounded by the people who matter most to him. After a century of birthdays, there can’t be many left that genuinely qualify as once-in-a-lifetime – but this one certainly did. And we felt genuinely privileged to have played a part in that.
