Weddings come with a to-do list that just never seems to end. Venue, outfits, the guest list nobody can agree on, table plans, invites you were supposed to send out three weeks ago… You pull the all-nighters, you rope in your friends to help with seating charts and yet, somehow, the list stays exactly the same length it was when you started.
Here’s the one thing that deserves to sit above all of it though: the food. Think about what it actually is. It’s the first meal you’ll eat as a married couple, sat there at your own reception and for most of your guests, it’s the bit of the day they’ve quietly been looking forward to since the invite landed on their doormat. Nobody says that out loud, but it’s true. Get the catering wrong and people remember it. Get it right, and somehow everything else about the day feels a little easier too.
Sore feet from standing around for hours in heels that seemed like a good idea in the shop. The exhaustion of getting ready since dawn. Making small talk with your cousin’s new partner you’ve met only once before. All of it tends to fade a bit once there’s a proper plate of food in front of people. That’s basically the whole idea behind Hog Roast Cullompton.
We’ve been doing this for decades now, and it’s how we’ve become one of the region’s go-to wedding caterers – which we got the chance to prove again recently for a couple who brought us in to cater their 100-guest wedding with our signature hog roast.
The pig went on low and slow, spending hours over the flame, until the skin turned crisp and golden and properly bubbled up, while underneath, the meat pulled apart at the lightest touch. As always, Hog Roast Cullompton served it with sage and onion stuffing, a good spoon of applesauce and crackling that people went wild for. Guests built their own plates at whatever pace suited them, piling rolls high or going for mixed salad and coleslaw on the side instead. And for anyone not eating meat, grilled veggie kebabs and BBQ-pulled jackfruit burgers meant they weren’t stuck picking at the edges of someone else’s dinner.
If you want your wedding day to actually run smoothly, start with the catering. Hog Roast Cullompton would love to be part of yours – and to make sure every guest leaves properly fed and quietly impressed.
