What do you get when you mix sunshine, a decent crowd and food that actually delivers? Don’t worry, no maths required. It’s simple really – you get one of those days everyone still talks about weeks later.
With Britain finally getting a proper summer this year, people have been grabbing every excuse to get outdoors with the people they love. Family, friends, colleagues – and in the case of one local church, their entire congregation. They’re known for throwing a summer bash every year, but this time round they decided to raise the bar and bring Hog Roast Somerton in on the fun.
Naturally, we jumped at the invite. In the run-up to the big day, we sat down with the organisers to talk through what everyone liked, what to steer clear of, and any dietary bits we needed to plan around. It didn’t take long before everyone landed on the same answer: a whole hog roast. And honestly, can you really argue with that? Pulled pork falling apart at the touch, sage and onion stuffing, crackling that shatters just right, a good dollop of applesauce on the side – there’s a reason it never goes out of fashion.

So that’s exactly what we cooked up for 100 hungry guests last month – but at Hog Roast Somerton, we don’t believe in leaving anyone out just because they’re not eating meat. Alongside the hog, we had grilled vegetable and halloumi skewers turning on the grill, plus BBQ-pulled jackfruit sliders that even a few committed carnivores couldn’t resist trying. Gluten-free and wholemeal rolls were on hand for everyone, and a big bowl of gourmet coleslaw sat next to a fresh mixed salad, just to keep things light against all that rich, smoky goodness.
By the time the afternoon wound down, there wasn’t much left for us to clear away. Empty plates, happy faces, and probably a few guests wishing they’d gone back for seconds sooner.
Got something planned before this heatwave finally packs it in? Give Hog Roast Somerton a shout – we’ll make sure the food’s one less thing you need to worry about.
