Tucked away on the Devon coast you’ll find Salcombe; an iconic resort town made popular by its breathtaking coastal views, pure white sands and crystal-clear waters, which in the summer months could rival any tropical hotspot abroad. But perhaps even more iconic than that – or even the town’s annual crab festival – is The Moult.
Overlooking exotic gardens, a heated pool and an authentic Victorian glasshouse, beyond which lies the Devon coastline, this luxury character home was once owned by the Earl of Devon. Today, it’s considered one of the finest private residences in the country and is memorable for its flamboyant pink paintwork.
Affectionately named Salcombe’s pink house, this romantic venue is, unsurprisingly, a popular wedding destination. And recently, our team at Hog Roast Salcombe were invited there to help bride and groom, Charlotte and Elliot celebrate their marriage at this showstopping location.
Aiming to keep things small and intimate, the couple had limited their guest list to 26 people, which made the whole affair feel much more personal and romantic all round. Because of the small number of guests, they had also asked our Hog Roast Salcombe catering manager, Rik, to serve a more simplistic menu. Our Classic Hog Roast Menu fit the bill perfectly, and on the day of the wedding, our catering crew arrived at The Moult hours before the evening meal was scheduled to be served.
Working with care and precision, Rik and the team expertly roasted the free-range pig in the HogMaster, and once cooked, they paired the tender meat with crackling, applesauce, stuffing and gluten-free rolls. Veggies and vegans, on the other hand, were offered a choice of BBQ pulled jackfruit buns with vegan ‘slaw or grilled vegetable skewers with tzatziki dip.
By the time the couple’s chosen serving time rolled around at 7 pm, a blanket of darkness had fallen on Salcombe. The lights from inside the pink house and those from the garden set the perfect ambience and cast just enough light that ferries and boats could be seen bobbing peacefully on the distant waves.
For Charlotte and Elliot, everything about the set-up of their wedding was idyllic, and their dreamy evening was only made better by Hog Roast Salcombe’s delicious hog roast rolls, which kept everyone in a great mood.
